ESSEX PBE Aircraft Application

Listed below is a partial list of commercial aircraft models which use the Essex PBE. As you can see the Essex PBE is installed on a wide range of aircraft including Airbus, British Aerospace, Boeing, Bombardier, Convair, Douglas, Embraer, Fairchild, Fokker, Lockheed, NAMC, and SAAB to name a few.

Essex PBE’s come in eight different universal mounting/stowage configurations and can be used on any aircraft to suit your unique needs.  If your specific aircraft is not listed don't worry.  Essex PBE's are not restricted to any specific type of aircraft but can be used on any and all you have.

PBE Certification

The Essex PB&R Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) is FAA & CAA (UK) approved and is designed for flight crews in accordance with FAA Action Notice A 8150.2 and SAE AS 8047.  The Essex Crewmember PBE meets the performance standards of the FAA Regulations part 21, Section 21.305 (b) and Technical Standard Order (TSO) C116.

PBE Donning Procedures

With only six donning steps, the Essex Crewmember PBE is the quickest donning PBE on the market.  The PBE goes on in seconds. The Essex PBE can be stowed in a combination stowage/mounting bracket (models MR-10022N, MR-10042N, 46NS, 46NY, and 49N).  This stowage configuration eliminates the steps of first removing the PBE container stowage container from a separate mounting bracket, and secondly prevents leaving an empty stowage container in the aircraft which may impede crew and passenger evacuation.

Donning Steps
  1. Remove from Stowage
  2. Tear Open Pouch
  3. Remove PBE
  4. Activate Oxygen
  5. Spread Neck Seal
  6. Put On

PBE Operation

After the oxygen is activated by opening the hood, two small cylinders provide the wearer cool fresh oxygen (not superheated oxygen like that from chemical generators). The Kapton and Telfon hood protects the crewmember's  head, eyes, neck and respiratory system completely from smoke, toxic fumes, heat, flying sparks and melting plastic parts. The integrated self sealing neck seal, seals comfortably around the users neck closing out toxic smoke and fumes providing a clean oxygen closed-loop breathing system.

Once the crewmember is wearing the Essex PBE they can then perform all required actions to extinguish a fire safely and immediately evacuate passengers.

Crossover Table for Current and Old Part and Model Numbers

FAA/TSO-C116 APPROVED PBE ASSEMBLIES

Note: The configuration of the old Model Numbers and the Current Model and Part Numbers are identical

Example: DP3113 () is identical in configuration to 4566M37-B(), MR-10034N is identical in configuration to 4566M37-B-034N, MR-10042N is identical in configuration to 4566M37-B-042NM, etc.

Part Number DP3113 () is the Essex Crewmember PBE without a barrier pouch or any type of stowage bracket.

The Current Model Numbers designate the type of bracket configuration that Part Number DP3113 () is assembled into.

PBE Stowage Options

Essex PB&R is proud to offer you nine different PBE final stowage options.  The size and material of your stowage containers is your choice.  Each configuration contains the same PBE just packaged differently to meet your needs.  No other PBE manufacture can offer you this flexibility and this many options.

Some people ask us why don't we have just one PBE stowage box, like other manufactures?

It's true as a manufacture, it's much easier to offer only one PBE configuration, however that would be like every one driving the same type of car.  At Essex PB&R we have found different customers have different needs when it comes to meeting crewmember safety & the one size fits all just doesn't work. At Essex PB&R we offer you the best all-around PBE packaged to me your needs, not ours.
